"Last summer, when my uncle had a medical emergency, we were quite suddenly faced with the prospect of finding a new, safe place for him to live. Up to that point, he had been completely independent. We needed to find a place where he could continue his independent lifestyle, but where there were supports in place that he could access as needed. He suggested Our Parents Home, as we were all familiar with the memory care floor where my dad — my uncle’s brother — had lived for almost a year. We are all happy to report that it has been a great fit. My uncle continues to do his own shopping, manage his own financial affairs, and organize his own medical appointments. He is able to transport himself there due to the central location of Our Parents Home and the ready access to public transit. His independent apartment is beautiful! The staff on site are friendly and professional, always ready to lend a hand. We are confident that as more care becomes necessary, it will be easy to add whatever is needed in the comfort and security of his new home."

"My life as a half-year resident at Our Parents Home (OPH) has been interesting, even stimulating. Initially, getting settled was hard work, just organizing “stuff” into a smaller space than in previous “digs”. The kitchen, fully equipped with standard appliances and ensuite laundry appliances made for a comfortable transition. My “grief” level was minimal given that my move was only a short distance, I was able to continue former commitments. But, there have been new horizons that required a choice between former and present opportunities. One experience was, that of attending Shabbat. The Rabbi said that “the Sabbath Day is a foretaste of the world to come.” Some of us at OPH wonder if the “world to come” has arrived! Could life be any better when offered the following activities: - Daily coached exercises - Gourmet meals - Weekly Happy Hour with snacks and entertainment - Periodic concerts by choirs and instrumentalists - Large screen movies, with popcorn - Periodic field trips (eg. Candy Cane Lane), transportation provided - Weekly bingo - Roof top garden - Panoramic view from the top level common area - Weekly Faith and Life discussions with the non-denominational Chaplin - Monthly Hymn Sings - Monthly Shabbat Service on site - Periodic Town Hall meetings where the Manager, Staff and Residents have discussions Two skills that I have yet to consider learning are: computers (there are two in the library) and playing pool. Breakfasts are additional events: residents with varied careers, interests and travel jaunts, share their experiences. It was my son who asked, “Mother, is your name on a list.” My son’s concern reminded me of my age and my vulnerability, having spent two months in a wheel chair, wearing air casts (moon boots), the previous year. OPH had not yet developed a waiting list, so it became an attractive option. Furthermore, it’s a good fit, closer to the doctor, dentist, optometrist and chiropractor. Bus stops are within a half block. Wise King Solomon put it this way: “Two people are better than one, because…., if one falls down, the other can help him up. But it is bad for the person who is alone and falls, because no one is there to help.” (Ecclesiastes 4:9-10). OPH features “aging in place”, assistance is readily available to deal with inevitable happenings while aging."

"We are so happy with Our Parents Home and the Team there. Two weeks ago, we arrived at OPH with my 86 year old father. Due to the poor care he was receiving living in Calgary, he was emaciated, sick, and his mental health was deteriorating rapidly. He could barely walk into the facility and we thought there was no way he would be able to figure out the elevator fob, or when it was time to go for meals. His conversation was barely intelligible and he lacked any kind of self-confidence. In just two weeks, he has improved so much, it is hard to believe it is the same man! He goes down for his meals regularly to join the other seniors and has made new friends. Every day we ask him what he had to eat and he will always proclaim “it was the best _______ he has ever had in his life”! He loves the food and has gained a lot of weight. He now walks regularly down to the Promenade and he is walking upright with confidence. On Thursday he went to “Happy Hour” and had a wonderful time. I wish that I could single out one of your team, for a special thanks, but quite honestly they are all wonderful. From the staff at the front desk, to the service staff in the dining room, to the Chef who comes out and personally talks with my father, to the outstanding nurses who are so kind and caring. The entire experience has been so amazing for my father and for my family. It makes us so happy to see my Dad getting healthy again. According to him, he is “the happiest he has ever been”. This is because of the staff at OPH. Thank you for looking after my father! "

"I have been a resident for the last year at Our Parents Home and it is a comfortable home, and the service is outstanding. I love the excellent dining room. We have the option of submitting our own recipes to the chef, and, he will prepare them for the whole dining room. The gym gives me many amenities, along with a great personal trainer. The location gives me easy access to the river valley and its close to the bus stops, but, I really like the option of the heated underground parking. We are all like family here at OPH, and there is no better place in the city."

"The move to Our Parents Home was an eye opener for us. We weren't sure that we would ever settle into some new surroundings at our age. The staff, from the roof to the garage, have our interests at heart, and they make sure that we are aware of the activities available "at home", and those in the community. Our life here, has been a great experience. We have found the staff at OPH are always interested in us, from the concierge at the front desk, to the regular staff, to be caring, cheerful and friendly, making us feel right at home."

"This is probably the Very Best retirement community I've seen in Edmonton. The food is Fabulous and served to a high standard, with a wine glass at every place setting. Staff are Welcoming and Residents seem Happy to be there. The 180 degree views from the 14th floor lounge have to be seen, especially at night when the city is all lit up. I'm a couple years away from making the decision to move but this place has my full attention. If you want all round Excellence, this is it! "
