Over 100 people attended the 1st ever Hotline Social event on October 13, 2016 in support of the Distress Centres, particularly the Caller Reassurance Program, a support service for seniors living in isolation. The event, which took place at the Artscape Sandbox, was a night to remember!
A fast-paced BINGO contest gave our guests the opportunity to win thousands of dollars in prizes. Our prizes were sponsored by exceptional brands such as L’Occitane, Dermalogica, Coastal Chains Jewelry, Lindo F, and Greenhouse Juices Co. After the bingo game, our guests were invited to dance and socialize ‘til midnight. We were overwhelmed by support from those who were not able to attend the event supported the cause anyway by donating.
About the Caller Reassurance Program
The Distress Centres offers a 24/7 Distress and Crisis Line, serving all of the GTA. Participants receive regularly scheduled and personalized call-outs from the Centres’ trained crisis responders. This program is designed to provide customized, intensive support through a designated call-out service for seniors who experience isolation. It is intended to support their ability to remain in and be part of the community through the promotion of their emotional well being and resiliency. Today, 60 seniors are enrolled in the program. However, there is high demand to enroll, which is why the Hotline Social team put together this event to help ensure as many seniors as possible can have access to this incredible support system.
